Davis Raines came to a career in music after 12 years as a prison guard in his home state of Alabama, an experience which informs a lot of his songwriting, often in unexpected ways. His work is deeply grounded in southern country, as well as a range of gospel, blues and R&B traditions. His songs have been covered by Pam Tillis, Kenny Rogers, Kelli Pickler, legendary ex-heavyweight champion Joe Frazier, Jon Byrd, Walt Wilkins and many others, and he’s released 8 albums over that time, including Turquoise & Silver, his latest, on the 22nd of January 2020. Turquoise & Silver, a 16-song collection inspired by the golden era of outlaw country music, was recorded with Davis's Band of a Thousand Names (Pamela Jackson, Mark MacKenzie and David Conrad) mostly live in the studio at Delta Music Institute in Cleveland Mississippi under the production of Tricia Walker. Davis has lived in Nashville since 1993.
