SPH Presents: Concerts in the Chapel with Sam the Lion and Rev. John Williams
Doors 6pm, Show 7pm
Sam the Lion returns to the Rose Chapel with singer-songwriter, and honorary band chaplain, the Reverend John Williams sitting in with the band. This is a family affair for sure, so come and join the family. This is a BYOB show, with some complimentary beverages available while supplies last. There will be a jam session after the show so bring those instruments!
Fort Worth native Rev. John Williams, PhD is the primary songwriter for the legendary Texas band the Tone Deaf Cowboys. Maya Angelou once told him, "Young man, you have strong words." He does indeed.
Sam the Lion was born in 2008 when friends and long-time collaborators Chris Allen Curtis and Ed Rogers decided to form a band and perform their original songs. Drummer Matthew Williams and bassist Rodger Harrison form the driving rhythm section that locks in the band’s trademark sound. Amanda Williams Ware joined in 2019 bringing her powerhouse vocals into the mix.
“This band is built to give us the raw horsepower to create and perform our original music in the way we conceived it,” Curtis says. “It’s a passionate band rooted in the classic guitar lineup, that encompasses all the genres that made us fall in love with music in the first place. Everyone in the band is a songwriter. Everyone is a performer. Everyone is indispensable. We love each other. We love this band. We write songs that mean something to us, and we hope they connect with you.”
Southside Preservation Hall and Southside Preservation Association are supported in part by a grant from Arts Fort Worth.
